Hi friend! One thing I am learning in my minimalist journey is how vital a routine is. They keep you focused, less stressed, and more productive. Being a Type A personality and a bit of an introvert, a routine is necessary for me to function. During the week, I have a list of things I need to accomplish in order to enjoy the weekends a bit more. I also have a routine for my weekend to make my work week less stressful, and today, I am going to share it with you!
Hopefully this will inspire you to create a weekend routine for your home. I have heard to many times that people are so overrun or stressed out in their homes. Most of the time it is due to 1. clutter or 2. lack of a routine. Trust me, when you remove the clutter and create a routine for your work week and weekend, your world will change.
My Weekend Routine
For my work week, I have a set routine for the things I do. From laundry to cooking, I know what has to be done each day. My weekend is a bit different. The things listed below are to be accomplished on either Saturday or Sunday, so long as they are done. As you know, weekends can vary in term of how busy you are, so this routine is just an overall weekend routine. If I get them all done on Saturday, that is amazing, but I never make that my absolute intention.
1 // Meal Plan
I like to plan my meals and grocery list over the weekend, so that when Monday comes, I can grocery shop for the week. Meal planning is not something that comes easy for me for a few reasons, so it is nice to have a couple of days to prepare.
2// Plan my budget for the week
If you read my post from Friday, you know that I have finally found a budget plan that is going to help me reach my financial freedom goals! By investing a few minutes over the weekend, I can make sure to not overspend on groceries and keep me from eating out more than I can afford.
3// Wash bed sheets, shower curtain, and curtains
One thing I cannot stand is dirty bed sheets. The comfort clean, soft bed sheets provide help increase the quality of sleep my hubby and I get. Our shower curtain is something that I try to wash weekly as well. The bottom of the curtain gets so gross, but by popping it into the washing machine, it is as good as new! The last “non-laundry” things I like to wash are my curtains. These things build up dust like no one has ever witnessed. Clean curtains just make a space feel much cleaner.
4// Wash all laundry
My work week routine includes washing one load of laundry a day. However, if we go out to celebrate someone’s birthday or life gets in the way, one load of laundry may not make it through the washer and dryer. So I like to use the weekend as my catch up time for laundry. It also provides me with a laundry-free day for Mondays, which is perfect since I like to do my grocery shopping on Mondays after work.
5// Tidy my home
If you are following my Instagram stories, you have seen me talk about tidying quite a bit lately. A tidy home is easier to manage. It allows you to know exactly where your problem areas are and what you need to tend to once you finish. I tidy my home at least every other day, but especially stress it on the weekends. It gives the start of the work week a better feeling.
6// Deep clean my home
Once I have a tidy home, I can clean everything. I start with putting any dirty dishes in the dishwasher. From there I like to wipe and dust everything in my home, clean my bathroom, sweep, mop, and vacuum. If I stayed on top of tidying throughout the week, deep cleaning only takes a hour or so. One of the many benefits to living in a small space.
7// Water my plants
You cannot forget to water the plants. I am terrible at trying to over water my plants that I have to add it into my routine. My aloe vera almost died to me over watering it. Sad, I know…
By creating a weekend routine, you set yourself up for success. Knowing what needs to be done to keep your home running smoothly is important to your health and well being. However, I encourage you to not overload yourself with a routine you have no shot at getting done. Give yourself grace if you have a busy weekend. I do not always accomplish these each weekend, but I set the best intentions to do them.
So I want to know if you have a weekend routine or if you feel inspired to create one! Let me know below in the comments.
